Topic
Renoprotective Effects of the SGLT2 Inhibitors
Abstract
The sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors were developed to serve an unmet need as a new agent to provide modest improvements in glycemic control for individuals with type 2 diabetes. Clinical experience with these agents has demonstrated remarkable cardiovascular benefits and surprising renal benefits that challenge our understanding of diabetic kidney disease, offer new hope for care of our patients but also require thoughtful application.
