Abstract
The field of Rheumatology has witnessed amazing progress in the understanding and management of rheumatic diseases over the past three decades. Targeted biological therapies have revolutionized the treatment of inflammatory arthritis, and now oral small molecules are on par as biologics after failure of traditional anti rheumatic drugs. We will review the current management of rheumatoid arthritis. Newer autoantibody profiles allow definitive diagnoses and prognostication especially in inflammatory myositis. Despite these advances, timely management of rheumatological diseases relies on careful history and physical examination. Managing comorbidities in patients with chronic rheumatic conditions is also essential in a holistic internist practice.
